The Colony armchair has a steam bent beach frame with a seat/backrest in open webbed cane. A series of upholstered cushion complement the chair by adding additional comfort.
Caning has always caught our eye. It is functional, sustainable, resistant, lightweight, and most importantly it reminds us of furnishings from the past. From its origins in Southeast Asia to its introduction in Europe that ranges from French baroque to Austrian industrial age seating.
While researching the caning process we realized that it is very suitable for shaping allowing it to follow a wooden frame relatively well. A contemporary look is achieved by designing the armchair in multiple colours and making the structure more angular compared to more traditionally caned furniture. This in turn creates greater contrast between the frame and caned sections of the chair.
